October Already

I am having a hard time believing it's October already.
We have conferences tomorrow.
I am settling in to a routine, and it is getting better.
I still miss my teacher friends, and I for sure miss my students.
It's such a long time until you get to the high school!!!
What books are you reading?
I just checked out Identical. My girls here are reading it....and think it's amazing.

WOW!

It's VERY different here at the High School.
The kids are good though.....lots of students I had when they were in 6th grade.
That's kind of fun.

Last Weekend for Me

This is my last weekend before I go back to work.
On Tuesday morning, I am back at work. TOO WEIRD!!!
I don't even know what I am teaching yet.
Trying to stay calm and not panic.
I think I will do reading workshop....the kids will love it!!!

Really?

Today I am at the new high school.

It's so bizarre. Kids are coming through and getting their schedules, having their pictures taken, etc., and it is becoming more real. I am teaching at a school that is VERY different than what I am used to.

Have you guys picked up your schedules? What middle school are you going to? Do you like the house you are in?
Fill me in on what's going on. I can't believe I won't see you all this fall.

I'm starting to feel sad about it.

Today is the day of Michael Jackson's memorial service.
It is a sad day, as well as a day of celebration of his life!
I will miss him!

Library Happenings

I told you that I would keep you posted on happenings at the library. MY BAD!
SO...I wanted you to know that the Farmington Public Library is having an activity on Friday, June 26th. They are having Dakota Wild Animals, Open House from 10:00-12:00. I think they will have wild animals at the library. How cool.

I'm busy getting ready for my trip.
I just put in the book order.
Tomorrow I will take all entries to the library to be submitted for the Poetry Contest.
I will work on putting updates on here when I am gone....so you won't miss me TOO much!

Mark Twain

I was reading a student's biography report today on Mark Twain.

This student put a famous quote in that Mark Twain said:

A person who WON'T read has NO advantage over one who CAN'T read!

POWERFUL!!!

It is SO TRUE!

We feel so badly for the people who are illiterate, but that that WON'T read....we should feel just as badly for them!

Tuesday

Today we read the article: Our Daddy, Doctor King.
It was a great article, and you guys really brought some great discussion to it.
We also read that song/poem about Civil Rights.
I was very impressed with the way you were able to dissect it and come up with deeper meaning to it. NICELY DONE!!!
No homework tonight...
OH...I guess it's now Wednesday.
SO...no homework LAST NIGHT!
I am at that Electronic Writing workshop today. I can't wait to learn new stuff and bring it back to show you.

It's Friday

I think this first week back went fairly well... don't you?
It's good to be back with you guys.
I so enjoy teaching you kids, and watching your passion for reading and writing grow.
It's amazing how much more you read and write than at the beginning of the year.
Don't forget to turn in your Read-at-Home sheet on Monday. Rememeber to get it signed! Next week is the last week of the 2nd quarter.
