I recently got an email from a concerned parent about the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer.
My own daughter is currently reading them right now....however she is 17.
I'd like some discussion about this.
Is this book and series appropriate for 6th graders to read?
I know a lot of you have read them, or are planning to read them.
What do you think?

I believe it is an awesome series- my grandma even likes them! If the sixth graders are mature enough to handle it, I think it's fine but their parents might want to read it first.

Thanks for your comment Jenna!
I plan to read this book next week.
I am interested to see what I feel about it AFTER I have read it.

Okay, I really resisted, but let my daughter read Twilight. Then I read it. Frankly, the story is quite good. The whole vampire things is more hokey than scary. However, the sequels gain momentum and the final book has more intensity than most 12 year olds need. But, all in all, I was glad I read the books too--that helped me talk with her about the pros adn cons of the character's choices, etc. For older teens and young women, I see why they love it. We'd all like such a devoted love interest!

Thanks for your words.
I think parents wonder what's in the books their kids read. As the kids get older...we struggle to stay on top of what our kids are doing/reading/watching/etc.
Thanks for your insight. Now I am more excited to read the books too. (Hearing a grown ups perpective!)
i hear only breaking dawn is a little inappropiate. i have read twilight and i am almost done with new moon and they are perfectly fine.
